I've decided that I want to do an exhibit with my sculptures. This is kind of a scary thought for me -- I've never really put my work on display publicly. I'm excited, now all I have to do is finalize my proposal.
The theme, you ask? My youth. I hesitate to say childhood, since when looking back on it from the perspective I'm hoping to portray, it almost seems as if I had no childhood. What a horrible thing to say! Naturally, I had a childhood! I think it was pretty great, too. However, some things weren't so great. It is those things that I wish to sculpt. My mother is mortified. I can understand, and even respect her opinion. But, in the end, it was my life, too. I really think that more people should experience the squalor that exists in the world, which squalor they chose to ignore. Sometimes I ignore it - preferring to not think about the negative side of humanity. But, it is there. And, more people should be willing to share what they experienced. It is through sharing that we learn and grow. And, it is through viewing that we gain a desire to change that which we can.
